"Loved one arrested" bail calls and fake SunPass toll texts
- Where
- Nassau County
- How it reaches you
- Phone call; text message
- Type
- Grandparent/bond scam; toll smishing
- Date reported
- Undated (Sheriff's page checked Nov 2, 2026)
Red flags
- Caller claims to be an NCSO deputy, says a loved one is arrested, wants bond money now (often in $500 amounts) by cash app, wire or gift card, and may spoof NCSO's number
- separately, texts claim you owe unpaid tolls and push you to pay through a link
What to do
NCSO never calls asking for bond money and doesn't take payment by app, gift card or phone. Call NCSO non-emergency at 904-225-5174. For toll texts: don't click, don't reply, delete, and contact SunPass using verified contact info
